My Beaumond House Story …

10 years ago I joined the Board of Trustees at Beaumond House Hospice Care. A few years later unexpectedly and suddenly my father-in-law became an in-patient at the hospice. The care was everything we could have hoped for- not just for Pete but for our family. Everything I had known about Beaumond House became a reality and we are still so grateful. We continue to support Beaumond House in several different ways.

After I retired from nearly 40 years in the NHS an opportunity to extend my volunteering for Beaumond House came up. Since November 2025 it has been my privilege to chair the Board of Trustees. I am driven by a strong sense of community and belonging. For me, this means that everyone – patients, families, friends and carers- has access locally to outstanding end of life care, in the right place and at the right time.

As Chair I was challenged to complete the Newark Half Marathon, alongside colleagues from Beaumond House, to raise awareness and sponsorship.

My running story …

I was a late comer to running- starting with couch to 5k around 15 years ago. I am not a competitive runner but have done 4 half marathons in the past 10 years. Each time I thought I would keep the training distance up, but every time life has got in the way and I’m back to just completing my Parkrun 5ks!

This year I thought I would challenge myself to progress from 4 half marathon distance events in 10 years, to 4 events in 4 months, including where I grew up (Ealing) and where I have lived for over 30 years (Newark). My challenge is:

27th June- Round Sheffield, 20km of 11 timed stages across a total of 24 km

16th August – Newark Half Marathon

6th September- Notfast Ponton Plod, Great Ponton, Lincs

27th September- Ealing Half Marathon, West London

Beaumond House Hospice Care is a registered charity committed to providing supportive palliative care to patients and their families living in Newark and Sherwood.

This year, providing care and support to patients and their families is expected to cost Beaumond House a total of £2.8million. Statutory funding contributes around 21% towards this, leaving £2.2million which will need to be raised through donations, our shops, and support from local businesses throughout Newark and Sherwood.

Their care services are provided for people who have a life-limiting condition with palliative care needs, are over 18 years old and live in Newark & Sherwood.
