This year, I am changing things up! For my birthday on February 9, 2024, I am celebrating by supporting Tree Streets, a non-profit organization dedicated to planting trees along the streets of urban neighborhoods in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Tree Streets focuses on planting trees within the blocks bounded by I-630 on the north, Roosevelt Road on the south, McAlmont Street on the east, and Woodrow Street on the west. Their mission goes beyond just planting trees; they are also committed to educating the public about the numerous benefits that trees bring to urban neighborhoods.

Trees provide more than just beauty; they offer shade, energy savings, and habitat for wildlife. In our cities, where space is limited, street trees play a crucial role in combating climate change. They absorb carbon from the atmosphere while providing oxygen and cooling effects that help reduce the impacts of climate warming. Additionally, trees act as natural air filters, cleaning the air of dust and pollution.

By supporting Tree Streets today, we can make a significant impact on our future. Older and larger trees provide even greater environmental benefits than younger ones. So let's come together and plant trees now to create a greener and healthier Little Rock for generations to come.
