Story
Me & m sis raising funds for Adoption UK, a charity that offers support to adoptive families. This charity is very close to my heart as we are an adoptive family. The support of this charity has been invaluable. When things have gotten tough I was able to turn to Adoption UK who understood our needs, were able to signpost us to relevant and essential support and made us aware of the Adoption Support Fund. This enabled us to access crucial therapies providing best support for our child and ourselves and gave us confidence to share this with others that were huge players in our son's life, such as school, wider family and friends.
After stepping back from volunteering with my local Adoption UK group due to work commitments, I was seeking alternative ways to contribute. And voila, up popped the Inca Trail Challenge with Global Adventure Challenges. It has been a dream of mine and my sister's to walk the Inca Trail and visit Machu Picchu. The loss of our parents and brother, all in the past couple of years has highlighted how fragile life is and motivated us to make those dreams become reality whilst celebrating their lives too. So we have signed up, starting to fund raise like crazy and start training!
Any support you are able to give is very, hugely, massively appreciated.
The organisation provides assistance through national and local events, its magazine, and online resources. It offers guidance throughout the adoption process and connects families to essential services, particularly during times of crisis. Adopted children have faced significant trauma before joining their new families, which can lead to challenges requiring therapeutic support in understanding their journey and themselves. Adoption UK is an indispensable resource for families seeking information about available assistance, including the Adoption Support Fund and local community groups.
Recent government funding reductions have resulted in decreased availability of the Adoption Support Fund for families. This has led to abrupt ends to therapies and left some families without anticipated support, increasing their reliance on the charity and at greater risk of compassion fatigue and family breakdown. So funds are needed now more than ever.
Your donations help Adoption UK to secure the right support at the right time for children and young people who are unable to grow up with their birth parents, from childhood into adulthood. Together we are family.
