Story

I signed up for the Berlin marathon in the hope of getting a PB before hanging up the long distance running shoes due to joint issues 👣

I'm fundraising for Save the Children because of the work they undertake to help children get the best possible start in life. Feeling safe and loved growing up is vital to children's development though so many do not get to experience this. Children should not have to live in poverty and we cannot begin to imagine how it must feel to grow up in areas of conflict.

Save the Children operates in over 120 countries, delivering programmes on health, education, protection and emergency relief. In the UK, their work involves narrowing the gap between disadvantaged children and better off classmates and lessening the impact of poverty on children and families.

These are some of the ways donations could help:

· £5 = a thermal blanket or jacket to keep a child warm

· £8 = a week’s worth of nutritious food for a malnourished child

· £10 = a hygiene kit that will cover the hygiene needs of one mother

· £12 = a full vegetable garden starter kit for a family to grow their own produce and improve their food security

· £15 = 125 water purification tablets

· £25 = 200 cholera rapid diagnostic tests

· £50 = 5 ‘school-in-a-bag’ kits for children

· £100 could provide 4 new-born babies with essential hygiene kits

Any amount that you could manage to support Save the Children's work at home and around the globe would be very much appreciated 🥰

I am running in memory of my Mum, June Toner, as life would have been very different for my brothers and me if not for her love, encouragement and resourcefullness. We are forever grateful for how she shaped our lives ❤️
