Story
Sue Ryder exists to make sure that anyone approaching the end of their life, or living with grief, can access the support they need. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to coping with loss, but with Sue Ryder, no one has to face dying or grief alone. They are there when it truly matters most.
Sue Ryder provided palliative care for my Grampy, Denys John Phillips. The care he received was respectful, warm and deeply compassionate. The staff at Leckhampton Court in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, are genuine real-life angels. They brought a sense of calm and familiarity to a situation that was anything but, allowing my Grampy to still be himself. Even in his final days, he was still able to be a dad, a husband, a Grampy, a great Grampy and a friend. Through kindness, compassion and even laughter, the staff gave us precious moments together that we will treasure forever 🦋.
Although my Grampy’s wish was to pass at home, this sadly wasn’t possible. Still, the Sue Ryder hospice became a home away from home. I will never forget the compassion and humanity shown not only to him, but to our whole family during such a painful time. I spent a lot of time at Leckhampton Court and I am so grateful for the space, comfort and support it gave us to create those final memories together.
We are still coming to terms with his loss and the speed at which he declined, but Sue Ryder have also offered ongoing support with grieving, reminding us that we don’t have to navigate this journey alone 🦋.
Because of the care, compassion and support they provide, both during someone’s final days and afterwards, no matter the amount raised, every single contribution truly makes a difference and helps Sue Ryder continue supporting families like mine.
