My story

Hi there all of you wonderful people out there, my name is Derek Pearce (as most of you know) I’m a 75 year old living in Oakley, Hampshire. Throughout my adult life I have been raising thousands of pounds for various charities (to many to mention).

Most of this was raised during my time in the Royal Navy (30 years) (CPOPTI) and then a further 15 years in the Ministry of Defence Police.

During my time in the MOD Police (1998) I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. On the 26th August the same year (1998) I entered Basingstoke NHS Hospital to undergo radical surgery. The surgeons that performed the operation were Brilliant (with a capital B). One was father in law of a well known tennis player. As you can see I am one of the lucky ones to still be here to tell my tale. So on the 26th August (2023) 25 years to the day I entered hospital I am going to hold an event in my back garden to raise as much very needed funds for Naomi House Hospice for Children and Jacks Place for teenagers.

The event will consist of Bingo/Horse Racing (my style and rules) with selling of books and jigsaw puzzles (mainly completed myself)(just a donation) and a raffle (tea, coffee, cakes will be available)

The event will be open to family, friends and people from Oakley Village. Children are more than welcome (they can help me) In face, anyone is welcome to come along.

My aim

My aim is to raise as much money as possible for Naomi Hospice for Childrn and would like to set my target at £500. Over the past 2 years I have already sent them £1300 so would love to top that total.

This I would like to make my final charity event and swan song so please help me out to achieve my aim.
