Story
We often told people that Dad had Parkinsons Disease as a shortcut because the condition he had, PSP, was in the same family, and no-one had ever heard of it. We hadn't heard of it before Dad's original diagnosis of Parkinsons was changed as it progressed.
Progressive Supranucleur Palsy is what Derek actually suffered from. This cruel disease presents differently, and is life limiting as well as progressively debilitating, taking away people's ability to walk, speak, swallow and eventually breathe.
Dad outlived the normal expectancy but it came at the expense of his quality of life in his last few years.
PSPA is the only UK charity dedicated to creating a better future for everyone affected by Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and Corticobasal Degeneration.
They provide information and support to enable families living with PSP & CBD to live their best possible lives; Improving the quality of life for people living with the condition via research and awareness raising; Putting the voice of the PSP & CBD community at the heart of what we do.
