Our beloved husband and father, Derek Thai, passed away peacefully on 29 October 2025 while on a long-awaited holiday with Linda – a trip filled with the joy and relaxation he had finally allowed himself in recent years.

In 2020 Derek was diagnosed with cancer. Against all odds he fought it, beat it, and was given five precious extra years. After his recovery he made up for decades without a proper break: cruising hand-in-hand with Linda, laughing with his seven grandchildren, and living with a lightness and happiness we had rarely seen before. That gift of time was made possible by the research and treatments funded by Cancer Research UK.

Derek never wanted flowers or fuss. He would have far preferred any kindness to go towards helping others facing the same fight he overcame.

This page is set up in his memory. Every donation, no matter how small, will support the vital research that gave us five more wonderful years with him – and could give another family the same hope.
