Story
In less than 1 week we are taking part in the Scilly60.
This is a 60km multi-island trail challenge, taking runners around every inch of coastal path on all five inhabited islands of the Isles of Scilly before returning to St Mary’s for the final push to the finish. The distance is further than we have run in one day, and the route has the same elevation gain as climbing 1,000m Snowdon, so there is no guarantee of completion.
And to make it harder still, if we don't run fast enough we miss the boat to the next island!
In participating, we hope to raise money for the event's nominated charity and ask for your support.
The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust is a tiny charity with a huge job.
45km off the south-western tip of Cornwall, this remote archipelago's rugged beauty and open vistas are one of the most designated places in the UK. Home to nationally important populations of seabird, rare endemic plants and provides a fuel-stop for rare migrating birds each year. Protecting 24 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and 44 Scheduled Ancient Monuments, the Trust safeguards the islands for future generations.
And if that is not worthy enough, they also look after the 60 kilometres of coastal paths that make up the Scilly60 ultra marathon route that we hope to complete on the 6th of September.
If you can spare a few £ we ask for your support to help us on our way!
Thank you,
Russell & Jonathan
