Story

Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. I’m really proud to be running the London Marathon for Macmillan this year, in support of the many friends and family members who have been affected by cancer or stood beside loved ones through it, and the essential work that Macmillan does to provide them with support.

In September 2024 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and underwent surgery and radioactive iodine treatment to try to remove and eliminate the cancer. I've been lucky to receive all my treatment from the Macmillan Cancer Centre in London, which is partially funded by Macmillan. From the moment of my diagnosis, Macmillan resources were there to help me to understand my cancer, explain what the operation would involve, offer assistance on how to talk to family and friends about my diagnosis, alongside a wide range of support available to people affected by cancer. I can't imagine going through such a stressful and daunting process without the safety blanket of Macmillan services.

I am incredibly fortunate that my experience with cancer so far has been relatively smooth and largely operable. However, that isn’t the case for many of the 3.5 million people currently living with cancer in the UK. The number of people being diagnosed with cancer continues to grow, and every single one of them deserves the right support to meet their individual needs. Thanks to fundraisers, donors, volunteers and supporters, Macmillan is able to provide vital services, care and guidance to people and their families at every stage of their cancer journey.

Everyone diagnosed with cancer deserves life-transforming support. That’s why I’m running the London Marathon with Macmillan - to help ensure support can be there for everyone who needs them.

98% of Macmillan's income comes from voluntary donations from supporters like you:

• £7 could cover the cost of a nurse offering a patient a personalised electronic Holistic Needs Assessment (eHNA) assessment and care plan

• £20 could provide essential emotional support to a person living with cancer through a session with a Macmillan Telephone Buddy.

• £27 could help run Macmillan's Online Community forum for 1 hour. In this time, 100 people affected by cancer in the UK can give emotional and practical support to each other on anything to do with cancer – from treatments, to coping with everyday life, to the death of a loved one.

• £37 can fund a Macmillan nurse for an hour, providing crucial medical, practical, and emotional support.

• £71 could pay for 100 copies of The Cancer Guide. This comprehensive Macmillan booklet can help someone recently diagnosed with cancer, and their families, understand more about cancer, its treatment, and the help available.

Thank you for reading. Any donation, no matter the size, would be hugely appreciated. Even the cost of a London pint can help Macmillan continue delivering their essential care. If you can't donate, please consider sharing this page, or other options like leaving a gift to Macmillan in your will: https://www.macmillan.org.uk/donate/gifts-in-wills/request-a-guide?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=G_PS_LEG_UK_BND_GIW_2025&gclsrc=aw.ds&&infinity=ict2~net~gaw~ar~665655257647~kw~macmillan%20gift%20in%20will~mt~e~cmp~G_PS_LEG_UK_BND_GIW_2025~ag~Gift&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20372438833&gbraid=0AAAAADk5Jf92pa7Cd_Qw5Q6F9W7PpItYo&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgvPKBhCxARIsAOlK_EogadWjYHftv28_sra0a607kYnFalgXYOgyoOnrMMr93B2EV47Nou4aAmMHEALw_wcB
