Story
Update, 6 January 2026:
I am delighted to confirm that I have successfully completed my year-long ’12,000 steps a day’ pilgrimage in aid of the Devon Historic Churches Trust. The fundraiser involved walking at least 12,000 steps (9 km) every day, from 1 December 2024 until today, 6 January 2026.
What began in December 2024, initially as a 1-month challenge, turned into a daily ritual; one that took me through all seasons and weathers, many beautiful landscapes of England, Scotland and Wales, dozens of historic churches, chapels and cathedrals, as well as countless moments of reflection.
This pilgrimage, however, was not just about maintaining a demanding walking routine; it was about supporting a cause close to my heart. The DHCT is a great charity, working hard to preserve Devon’s priceless historic churches: living monuments that continue to serve their communities while connecting us to our shared past.
I am very grateful to everyone who donated. Together, we have raised over £750 (plus GiftAid). Thank you.
