This August bank holiday (29-31st), Durham Fell Runners will complete a continuous relay of the "Roof of England" around the North Pennines National Landscape. The 300km (190 mile) route runs as far north as Haltwhistle and as south as Keld, with Dufton on the west side and Wolsingham on the east. The route takes in extensive moorland and fell, which will present as challenging in wet or hot weather, and are easy to get lost on in the dark! We predict the relay will take us over 48 hours, with at least 2 team members will be running at all times, and other club members acting as drivers and crew throughout.

Our goal is to raise enough money to fully kit out four new recruits to Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team. Each new recruit needs:

We want to be able to provide this four times over! Every new recruit provides more support for those of us who love to explore and run in the hills and moorland of this beautiful place we call home. Each and every one of us could need to use a search and rescue team at any time, and their presence in the hills makes them a safer pace for us all. Many of the club have personal experience either needing to call for help, or volunteering with search and rescue, and we remain eternally grateful for every club member helped by TWSMRT.

About TWSMRT:

The rescue team consists of about 50 volunteers, all on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All our volunteers have full time jobs and meet almost all their own expenses. The team will typically respond to between 40 and 50 requests for help every year.

Team vehicles, rescue kit, medical supplies and operational running costs are in excess of £55,000 per year so we rely on donations from the public to allow us to continue providing this free public emergency service.
