Story
On Sunday 22nd September 2024, DGS sixth form students & staff will be taking part in the Vitality London 10K raising money for BLAZE in memory of former student Benjamin Shaw who passed away from DIPG (a rare paediatric brain tumour) in March 2021.
Benjamin started at DGS in year 7 in 2020, just weeks after being diagnosed with DIPG. Benjamin had a love for learning and had a particular interest in learning Japanese. Since Benjamin's passing, DGS regularly fundraise for BLAZE to remember and honour Benjamin.
Every 9 days a child in the UK is diagnosed with DIPG. DIPG typically affects children between the ages of 4 and 11. The cause of DIPG tumours is unknown. DIPG are extremely hard to treat and the median survival rate is just 9 months from diagnosis.
BLAZE is a charity founded by Benjamin's sister, to raise funds to support other children/families affected by DIPG through grants & gifts, and to help fund much-needed awareness of and research into this rare paediatric tumour.
Any donations are greatly appreciated! Keep an eye open for updates!
