Story
Well, I'm not going to win it but I am running in the London Marathon next April! My target is to raise at least £2,000 for Weldmar Hospicecare, the Dorset based end of life care charity.
I've decided to celebrate my 70th birthday by going for the big one and raising some money at the same time. It will be my first and probably last marathon, it’s the equivalent of running from Charmouth to Taunton! The English Channel is only 21 miles across!
I took up running when we moved to Charmouth in 2012. You may have seen ‘that running lady’ running around the village or pounding along the sea front in Lyme Regis. So, if you see me out training in Charmouth or Lyme Regis in the cold, dark winter months, encouraging shouts of 'Come on Diana!' would be much appreciated.
Even better encouragement would be if you could please make a donation through this page. If you've ever had to call on Weldmar for reassurance, comfort and peace you will know what brilliant people they are. If, like me, you've never needed their support, you just hope that they'll be around when you do.
It costs £26,000 every day to keep Weldmar running, £393 funds one inpatient for just one day. Please give as generously as you can.
To be selected by Weldmar as one of their scarce ‘golden ticket’ runners is both a privilege and a little bit daunting. Please show your support and help me to smash my target!
Thank you
Diana Burn
Weldmar Hospicecare provides specialist care for adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. All of our care is provided for free, and we need to raise £26,000 every day to continue providing all of our services. This includes care at home from Weldmar Community Nurses and Weldmar at Home, our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester, counselling and bereavement support, social workers, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and so much more.
