Story
Abbie has been under the care of this wonderful place for six months now. A hospice is naturally not somewhere a 25-year-old would like to be, but the warmth and support of every single member of staff and volunteer makes her and the whole family feel safe and valued. Without the hospice, we would be totally lost and having to find support in the overstretched NHS system, which, to no fault of their own, is a much more stressful situation.
The Hospice of St Francis supports over 2,000 local people who are managing or recovering from serious illness. We help patients live their precious lives well by improving symptoms and working with them to achieve personal goals—helping them to feel safe—and anything from getting back to work, enjoying family time, to walking the dogs again.
Our care takes many forms. Our professional team plus dedicated, trained volunteers care for people with a wide range of illnesses including cancer, motor neurone disease, dementia, heart disease, lung disease, and neurological illness. We can help patients in their own home or at the Hospice through one-on-one appointments or group sessions (anything from physio to nursing support and mindfulness to complementary therapy) in our Spring Centre or through 24/7 care in our beds.
As we prepare for "The Mudpack Challenge 2025" marathon on October 12th, 2025, we are reaching out for your support. Our target is £500 to continue providing this essential care that so many rely on. Your contribution will make a significant difference in helping us maintain our services and ensure that individuals like Abbie receive the compassionate support they deserve. Please consider donating today; every little bit helps us keep our doors open and our hearts full.
