Team: Celebrating 80 Years of Fletcher Moorland by supporting the Dougie Mac

Douglas Macmillan Hospice (Dougie Mac) is the only hospice in Staffordshire supporting Children, Young Adults & Adults. Care is given to patients who are living with a life-limiting illness at our two sites and in the community. We also provide support for patients families and their carers.

Story

I’ve been part of Fletcher Moorland for 27 years, and in our 80th year, we’re setting ourselves a challenge to raise £80,000 for the Dougie Mac.

This isn’t just a charity to me, it’s deeply personal.

The Dougie Mac cared for my sister, Linda, in her final days. I lost my mum when I was 11, and as one of eight children, Lin became more than a sister, she was my best friend. This year marks 10 years since we lost her, and if you’ve ever lost someone you love, you’ll understand… you don’t get over it, you just learn to live with it.

What I will never forget is the care, dignity and compassion the Dougie Mac gave to Lin and to all of us as a family. It was beyond anything we could have provided ourselves, and I will always be grateful.

That’s why this matters so much.

As a team, we’re taking on an “Around the World in 80 Days” challenge, covering 24,901 miles, alongside other fundraising events, including our 80th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

It costs £56,000 every single day to keep the Dougie Mac running, and over 75% of that comes from donations.

I know times are tough, but if you can give anything at all, even £1, it really does make a difference.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any support you can give. It means more than you might realise.
