Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in memory of my lovely, beautiful Mum – Edna.

Edna sadly passed away peacefully on Wednesday 9th August aged 90. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman and was a much-loved mother to Philip and Diane. Sadly, my brother, Philip died suddenly earlier this year.

Edna will be remembered with fond and loving memories by her surviving older sister, Evelyn and sister-in-law, Marjorie and by all her nieces and nephews, as well as all her friends, former colleagues, neighbours and latterly by her dedicated carers. Edna was very popular and well-liked by all who met her. She was kind, caring, intelligent and fun-loving with a great sense of humour. She was from Liverpool after all!

Edna attended Blackburne House Grammer School in Liverpool and passed all her exams including a credit in Latin. She then undertook a Secretarial Course at Liverpool College of Commerce where she gained a Diploma. Her first job was for the Canadian Pacific Railway Company which was based in the Liver Bird Building at Pier Head. Edna worked all her life as a secretary, and was highly respected at her various jobs. She had a career break to raise her family, but thereafter continued to work until she retired. The most notable companies she worked for were Denbighshire Travel Agency in Wrexham and Hunting Engineering in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. She made many friends wherever she went.

In her spare time Edna enjoyed swimming, reading, cooking and travelling. She also liked music and dancing. Family holidays were spent in their touring caravan around the UK and especially in North Wales and Scotland, but also abroad to Switzerland and Norway.

Alzheimer’s took away her confidence and ability to communicate and write. She became much quieter and was not the chatty person she once was. However, she never lost her indomitable spirit and beautiful smile.

Thank you for taking the time to read this tribute to my Mum. Donations, instead of flowers would be very much appreciated to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK, in the hope that one day, there will be a cure for this horrible disease.
