Story
Didsbury Northern Hockey Club are raising funds memory of Rich Hayward, our great friend and amazing teammate who we sadly lost in June 2025.
The money raised will go to for Cardiomyopathy UK, a charity that Rich supported since his own diagnosis, some years ago.
Hockey is a close knit community and many will know Rich from his time as Didsbury Northern Men's 1st team captain.
His skills, fitness and fierce competitiveness on the pitch, plus his willingness to leave no stone unturned in the quest to improve the team propelled them up the divisions from playing in the North West leagues to becoming an established National League outfit, becoming our club record goalscorer in the process.
Whatever his contributions were on the pitch, they were ten fold off it. His friendship, love of fancy dress and mischievous sense of humour are sorely missed.
On Saturday 6th September, at 4pm at the Armitage Centre there will be a match between Didsbury Northern Men's 1st XI and a DNHC Old Boys XI to remember Rich, celebrate his achievements and to raise funds.
The match will be followed by drinks at Greater Manchester Police Sports & Social Club (Hough End Centre, Mauldeth Rd West, M21 7SX).
All are welcome.
