Story
My name is Dina and I was diagnosed with 2 types of brain tumours and cerebellar ataxia. Although I received radiotherapy, I have been left with the complete loss of hearing in one ear, balance and mobility problems and other health issues. Cerebella ataxia is a degeneration of the part of the brain that controls movement and this will continue to get worse. However, I've remained committed to working and to staying positive.
Since my diagnosis, I have set myself a number of challenges and have been working towards completing them. One of those challenges is to visit 100 castles in Wales within 1 month on a continuous road trip, to raise money for the Brains Trust charity. My husband will be supporting me as we set off from our home, in North Wales, making our way towards Conwy Castle and end the trip at Gwrych Castle.
There were over 600 castles built in Wales, but only 128 castles remain in some form today. Of those, some are in remote, difficult to reach places. After a lot of research, we have mapped the location of 100 castle and timed visits at each to achieve the goal of completing the route within the time frame. We hope to raise funds by posting daily on social media with a Brains Trust T shirt at each location.
Over 60,000 people have been diagnosed with brain tumours in the UK and the impact can be devastating, not only for the sufferer but also for family and friends.
Please support me as I attempt to raise funds for this very worthwhile charity.
Thank you.
