Story
Our daughter Harriet was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2002 aged just 11yrs. During the following two years she was admitted many times to the Bristol Childrens' Hospital for treatment and we, as a family, were able to stay free of charge at both CLIC House and Sam's House at various times while Harriet was either in hospital or had to stay nearby for the next treatment. Living in Newquay it was the most amazing help for at least one of us to be with her constantly which meant she didn't have to face anything on her own.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, they help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer.
Sadly Harriet didn't survive this terrible disease and passed away at home in Newquay in 2004 aged 13yrs.
We, together with our family and friends, have been organising the annual DIP since 2012 in Harriet's memory and apart from a couple of years due to Covid, we have managed it ever since making 2027 the 14th DIP!!
Please support us in this very important fundraising event.
