24 Hour Row Challenge · 8 September 2025

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity is the principle charity of the Royal Navy. Beneficiaries lie at the heart of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity's purpose, it is our duty to remain focused on their needs. Since 2007, we have funded projects and facilities that boost morale for those who serve today. We also distribute millions of pounds annually to military charities which care for the children, families and veterans of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

Story

The 2025 DNE 24-Hour Rowing Challenge

Following the incredible success of the 2024 challenge, which saw an astounding 4,200km rowed across 8 sites with over 450 rowers taking part, the DNE 24-Hour Rowing Challenge is back for 2025 – and it’s set to be bigger, better, and more inclusive than ever!

In 2023, two teams in DNO successfully completed the first 24-hour rowing challenge, bringing together individuals from across Whitehall to celebrate the formation of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise and to experience some of the challenges faced by the HMS Oardacious team during their Atlantic crossings.

In 2024, the challenge grew significantly, with teams from across the Ministry of Defence rowing a combined 4,200km in just 24 hours. The event celebrated the historic victory of HMS Oardacious in the World’s Toughest Row in January 2024 and supported the HMS Oardacious Valkyries – the first all-female serving military crew to row the Atlantic.

Now, in 2025, the challenge is back and promises to be even more ambitious. For the first time, international partners will join the event, rowing alongside MoD teams to see who can row the furthest in 24 hours on the 8th and 9th of September. This exciting addition highlights the collaborative spirit of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise and strengthens bonds with our allies.

Whether you’re a seasoned rower or a complete beginner, this is your chance to get involved in a truly unique event that brings people together from across the globe for a great cause.

The DNE is proud to continue its partnership with HMS Oardacious – Submariner Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, which supports Submariners and their families as they navigate the challenges of the Submarine Deployment Cycle.

In recognition of this partnership, and to honour the achievements of HMS Oardacious and the Valkyries, the money raised in this year’s challenge will once again be split between the HMS Oardacious - Submariner Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund (75%) and other RNRMC Mental Health and Wellbeing Projects (25%) that support the wider Royal Navy and align with the values of the Oardacious Valkyries.

If you’re interested in taking part, keep an eye on internal MoD communications for details on how to sign up and get involved.

Let’s make 2025 the biggest and most successful DNE 24-Hour Rowing Challenge yet – with participants from across the UK and beyond!

To see how the money raised is making a difference, follow HMS Oardacious and RNRMC on their social media channels.
