London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

Support our #TeamARUK 2025 TCS London Marathon runners as they take on 26.2 miles for a cure!

Story

We knew something wasn’t quite right with dad and for a long time I tried to convince myself that his change in personality was part of getting old.

He was admitted to hospital whilst I was on holiday in June 2022 and what we hoped was delirium sadly turned out to be rapidly progressing Alzheimer’s disease.

My mum and I did our best to meet his needs at home but had to put him into a home which broke both of our hearts. Sadly dad passed away in November 2024 and this makes this marathon even more special to me.

The only positive in this journey has been the friends we’ve made along the way, and our good friends Jan and Sonia lost their husband/dad on Boxing Day 2024 - mile one of the marathon is dedicated to the lovely Brian George.

I’ve seen first hand the sadness this devastating disease can bring and want to do anything I can to prevent other families suffering and that’s my motivation for running the London Marathon in 2025. Those of you that know me well will know that I only run for beer or food so this is a massive challenge and I’ll be thinking of my dad and all the other families affected by Alzheimers every step of the way.

I will be running each mile in honour of somebody special that has been affected by dementia, if you would like me to dedicate a mile to your loved one please let me know:
