Story
I’m attempting to run a 100km ultramarathon.
There’s a Japanese practice called a misogi
Once a year, you take on something so difficult there’s a real chance you might fail.
Something that forces you to test your limits and change how you see yourself.
The idea is simple:
It should be the hardest thing you do all year with a 50% chance of completing it.
This is mine.
But this isn’t just about running.
I’ve seen what mental health can do to people close to me, and at times, to myself as well.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 54 in the UK.
For me, running has always been more than fitness.
It’s been my therapy both physically and mentally. The one place I can clear my head when things aren’t right.
So I wanted to take that and push it to the extreme.
100km. One day.
A proper test, mentally more than anything else.
Because no one should feel like they’re dealing with things on their own.
I’m raising money for Andy's Man Club a charity that gives men a space to talk, without judgement.
If this does anything, I want it to:
- Get people talking
- Make someone feel less alone
- And raise as much as possible for a cause that genuinely saves lives
If you can donate, it honestly means a lot.
And if you can’t, check in on your mates.
That matters more than you think.
