Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2026, I will be running the London Marathon in memory of my dad, Adrian Chester, and to support a charity that meant a great deal to both of us: We Are Donors. Their mission is to raise awareness of organ donation, empower young people to make informed decisions about organ donation and ultimately increase the number of organ donors in the UK to help save lives.
My dad was born with a congenital heart defect. Despite surgery as a child and excellent medical care throughout his life, he eventually required both a heart and liver transplant at the age of 50. He spent six months in hospital waiting for a suitable donor, and after undergoing an incredibly rare combined heart and liver transplant in 2015, he went on to live life to the fullest. Sadly, he passed away in 2023 following complications from COVID.
We remember my dad every day, and his impact is still felt by the many people whose lives he touched. Organ donation is a cause incredibly close to my heart—without the generosity of my Dad's donor, we would not have had those extra years with him, which were some of the very best years we shared.
I would be extremely grateful for any support you are able to give. Thank you so much for helping me honour my dad’s memory and support this vital cause.
He also has an obituary written about him published in The Times, if you would like read it, the link is below.
