Story
I am currently The Herefordshire Golf Captain 2025.
On the 23 June this year, accompanied by James Heath, Director of Golf at the Herefordshire
Golf Club and my wife Lee, we will be playing 5 holes on 5 different courses in Herefordshire on
1 day. This is to raise much needed funds for my nominated charity, HVSC.
We will start the day at 6 am, where we will play our first 5 holes at Kington Golf Club, which is
the highest 18-hole golf course in England, standing at 1284 ft above sea level.
From there we travel 18 miles to Leominster Golf Club to play our next 5 holes, a course that has
views over the Marches, with the River Lugg running along side its border.
We then venture 25 miles to the southerly part of the county to play another 5 holes at South
Herefordshire Golf Club, with panoramic views over Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Welsh
Hills.
Moving another 18 miles back north and crossing the River Wye; our fourth course is our near
neighbours Burghill Valley, situated just 4 miles northwest of the city. Here we will have
completed 20 holes for the day.
A short journey of just over 3.5 miles, sees us finishing our day at our home course, The
Herefordshire, founded by James Braid with stunning views of the Shropshire Hills, Brecon
Beacons and the Malverns.
Where on completion of our 25th hole, I will buy Lee a drink to celebrate our 35th wedding
anniversary
In total we will travel about 70 miles, hopefully in about 2 hours depending on traffic.
I would like to thank the other clubs for giving us courtesy of the course, and would highly
recommend a visit to any of the fine courses our county has to offer.
Thank you taking the time to read this and hopefully you can donate to my charity.
About the HVSC
Herefordshire has a large community of former military service personnel. Being exposed to
events and challenges that can make them more vulnerable to loneliness, social isolation is a
common issue affecting the Armed Forces community. Estimates show that as much as 25% of
the county’s population has connections with the military
With a walk-in centre in Hereford, the HVSC works in partnership with a series of organisations,
local military charities and volunteers. It is aiming to develop its network of volunteers so it can
expand its services further and reach out to a greater number of people, helping combat
loneliness, providing support, such as applying for grants, filling in forms etc.
“The centre is built on trust and an overriding ethos to get it right so that we can benefit anyone
and everyone who comes through the door.“
