Don Shanks’ 2025 New York Marathon for Alzheimer’s Society

Don Shanks is raising money for Alzheimer's Society

TCS New York City Marathon 2025 · 2 November 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Hi, I’m Don Shanks, former Fulham, Luton, QPR, and Brighton full-back. In November 2025, I’ll be taking on the New York Marathon to raise vital funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

This cause is deeply personal to me. I’ve seen first-hand how dementia has affected so many in the football community — including my great friend and teammate Stan Bowles, who we sadly lost last year.

Stan has gone, but Alzheimer’s has not.

Stan gave everything to the game, and I promised I would keep supporting the fight against dementia in his name.

Running 26.2 miles in New York is a big challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the daily battles faced by those living with Alzheimer’s and their families. By donating, you’ll be helping to fund life-changing research, support services, and the vital work that the Alzheimer’s Society carries out every day.

⚽ My target is £100,000 — ambitious, but with your help, achievable. Every pound counts, and Gift Aid can make your donation go even further.

Please give what you can, share this page with friends and family, and stand with me as I run for Stan, for football, and for every family touched by dementia.

Thank you for your support — it means the world.
