Story
February 26th,2025 would have been the 100th birthday of Dan Wilkes, the man I regarded as my Dad.
To commemorate this date I will be taking part in City Hospice's Firewalk challenge which promises to be a once in a life time opportunity!
Dan died in November 2015, aged 90, having been diagnosed with cancer in the previous month. City Hospice provided Dan and our family with care, advice and support in a compassionate and empathetic way,for which we are all forever grateful.
Since Dan died my family and I again witnessed the excellent treatment and care that City Hospice provide when my Mum(in 2020)and then my Uncle(in 2024)required palliative care.
Having experienced the support of City Hospice, and seeing first hand the vital role that they provide in palliative care, I am excited to participate in this Firewalk Challenge to raise money for this charity.
I’m sure Dan would think I am a bit crazy to attempt this challenge in his memory but I know he would be very proud that much needed funds are being raised to continue the amazing service provided by City Hospice.
City Hospice is the only provider of home-based specialist palliative care in Cardiff and we need to raised over £3 million in order to provide this essential care.
In addition to providing care and services including welfare advice and complementary therapies to patients with terminal or life limiting illnesses, the charity offers counselling and support services for their patients’ families.
