Ward 28 at the RAH has been designated as a dedicated Surgical Palliative Care Unit. The layout and infrastructure are not currently suitable as a hospice-style facility.

We want to significantly improve the experience for patients and their loved ones, with provision of private space for families and loved ones, and enhancement of the physical environment to improve privacy, dignity and comfort.

Our great friend and colleague Anton was a passionate supporter of palliative care provision in the RAH. And ultimately, a recipient of that care within both the RAH and Accord Hospice. He was also a great athlete. That’s how we remember him. And we miss him dearly.

We plan to enjoy an inclusive 5k run for patients, staff, family and friends, of all abilities, in honour of Anton and our many past patients and those we hope to serve better in the future .
