Save the Date — Racing for Rescues 2026

We’re back…and this year we have a PURRFECT reason to celebrate.

Please Save the Date for Second Chance Pet Adoptions’ Racing for Rescues Sunday, May 3, 2026, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m., at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary, NC

This year is extra special for our family because our rescue cat, Sampson, has been selected as the official cat mascot for the race t shirt!

Sampson’s journey with Second Chance began in 2016, when he was rescued from a feral colony with serious injuries—including one that ultimately required the amputation of a leg. When we first met him in medical hold, healing from surgery, it was love at first sight… helped along by Will sneaking him a few treats.

Sampson’s Gotcha Day has been one of the happiest days of our lives. Being a tripod has never slowed him down—though we still catch ourselves holding our breath when he launches himself from one perch to another. He loves nothing more than basking in the sunshine, and just as the sun warms his fur, he warms our hearts with his gentle love and steady purrs. That’s why his nickname is Sunshine.
