Story
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs.
My story
My name is Donna and in July 2023 I had my whole world turned upside down. I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I had emergency surgery to remove a tumour from my colon. Once I recovered from surgery I then had six months of chemotherapy.
In August 2024 I was told the news, that the cancer had spread to my ovaries and I needed a full hysterectomy. The surgery went well however it was a long road to recovery because my wound didn’t heal as well.
Then just when I thought everything was on the right path I was given yet another blow that it had spread into my abdomen wall lining, I then had to have targeted cancer drugs for three months. In October 2025, I had my biggest operation yet called CRS Hipec. I now live with a stoma (Bertie), this has it's own challenges. My recovery from this operation was going so well and it was the best I felt in ages, however in this past week I was given the devastating news that the cancer‘s back and in my lungs and they can no longer cure me.
During this whole time I’ve been under two Macmillan teams, surgery and oncology and they are the most wonderful special people, they have been my 'go to'. They have listened to me, given me a boost when I’ve needed it, they’ve cried with me, they’ve laughed with me, they have chased things up on my behalf, they have just contacted me to see how I’m doing. I didn't realise until I needed them, how much knowledge they have in their fields.
I am very very fortunate to have the best family and friends and the support has been absolutely amazing, however I know there are too many people battling cancer on their own. Myself, family and friends have just started to make plans to have a charity event to raise money for Macmillan, this means so much to me and I would love to help make a difference. Keep your eyes peeled, further info to follow once details have been confirmed.
My cancer diagnosis hasn't just affected me, it's affected my partner, family and friends. Everybody knows someone that has been affected by Cancer.
That's why Macmillan will do whatever it takes to help everyone living with cancer across the UK get the support they need right now and transform cancer care for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving, once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.
Now with the help of the my friends and family, I am organising a charity 'fun day' event, details are as below;
