26 mile walk from York Minister to Ripon Cathedral · 12 May 2024

We work with churches, individuals and local organisations in communities worldwide, supporting people of all faiths and none to rise out of poverty. We help people survive disasters, deal with the impact of climate change, find shelter from conflict and have a voice in their communities.

Story

Everyone is equal in the sight of God. For over 75 years, this truth has inspired us to stand together in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours, of all faiths and none.

Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets injustice thrive.

We seek to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. Together with people living in poverty, we amplify our voices to speak truth to power and create lasting change.

Clare had the idea of a Cathedral-to-Cathedral walk to raise money for Christian Aid Week in May 2024 - so here we are.

Dorothy has not walked over 25 miles for charity (Oxfam) since 1969. The last walk was around Sunderland and overnight. Being a know-all teenager she wore fashion boots and did not train - just went for it. No wonder then she had swollen and torn feet at the end. Richard and Rod Dawson wore walking boots and got around with no problems.

Clare Dorothy Kit and Scout are all in training this time so that the walk can be accomplished safely. The route takes out of York to Shipton and onto Linton Ouse then to Myton onto Kirby Hill and so to Ripon. Most of the route has been recced with only Shipton to Linton on Ouse to be done.

This year's Christian Aid's theme is tackling poverty at home and abroad - more about this soon
