I’m Walking 62 Miles in March to Support Women Escaping Domestic Abuse.
Every day, women face violence, control, and fear—often at the hands of those who should love them most. This March, I’ll be walking 62 miles to raise funds for Refuge, the UK’s largest domestic abuse charity, which provides life-saving support, shelter, and protection for thousands of women and children.
Domestic abuse is one of the most widespread but hidden human rights violations. It takes many forms—physical violence, emotional and psychological abuse, financial control, coercion, and even digital abuse. Many women suffer in silence, trapped in fear with nowhere to turn. That’s why Refuge is so vital. It offers a lifeline, ensuring women and their children have a safe place to go when home is the most dangerous place they could be.
Raising Awareness: Honour Killings & Femicide in Iran.
While the funds I raise will go directly to Refuge, I also want to shine a light on violence against women worldwide—especially in Iran, where honour killings and femicide continue to claim lives.
In Iran, so-called "honour" killings—where women are murdered by family members for perceived "shameful" behaviour—remain a horrific reality. Women have been killed for refusing forced marriages, seeking divorce, or simply for choosing how to dress and live. The legal system often fails them, with perpetrators receiving shockingly light sentences or even walking free.
Women like Romina Ashrafi, a 14-year-old girl beheaded by her own father for trying to elope, or Mona Heydari, a 17-year-old brutally murdered by her husband, represent just two of the countless victims of this injustice. These are not isolated cases; they are part of a systemic failure to protect women’s basic human rights.
Femicide—the killing of women because they are women—is a global crisis, but in countries like Iran, it is normalised, justified, and often ignored by those in power. Women everywhere deserve safety, freedom, and justice. No one should live in fear, and no one should die simply for wanting to live their own life.
Just £15 could provide essentials for a woman arriving at a refuge. Many arrive with little more than the clothes they are wearing. Your donation could help provide toiletries, food, and other necessities to support them through their first night.
Every £1 makes a difference. Thank you for your support!
