Story
Douglas and Lyle are back in the saddle for another ambitious RNLI fundraising ride. This September, they’ll join 30 other cyclists for the RNLI “Tour of the North”. A 200-mile challenge with over 10,000 feet of climbing, riding from Newcastle to Bamburgh, up to Berwick, into Edinburgh, and finishing in the fishing village of Anstruther. Along the way, the peloton will visit all 15 RNLI lifeboat stations on this stretch of coastline, meeting the crews who dedicate themselves to saving lives at sea.
All funds raised will go to Tower Lifeboat Station, the busiest in the UK, based under Waterloo Bridge on the Thames. Every year, around 20 people drown in the river, where fast tides, cold water and hidden debris make it one of the most dangerous waterways in the country. Tower RNLI provides a 24/7 emergency service, launching in under 90 seconds, and has now launched over 11,000 times since 2002, saving more than 500 lives. Running the station costs over £2,000 a day – and the RNLI receives no government funding, relying entirely on donations.
Last time, with your support, the ride raised over £50,000. Please help us go further this year! Every pound makes a direct difference to Tower RNLI and the volunteers who risk their lives to save others. Thank you!
