Story
Hello everyone, here I am again, after your money for my now annual bike ride in memory of our little boy, Dylan. Yes, for the third year running, I’m getting back in the saddle!
In March 2024, we lost Dylan during the pregnancy. We had been told early on that he was likely to have Down syndrome and we began to prepare ourselves for the journey ahead - we had many questions, but most of all we had a lot of love to give him.
At just five months, Dylan was born sleeping. In his short life he changed ours, and he opened my eyes to Down syndrome, revealing my own ignorance but providing me the opportunity to reflect and change my way of thinking.
There are still so many outdated misconceptions about Down syndrome, shaped by a time when support was limited and inclusion wasn’t a priority. But the world is changing. Today, more and more people with Down syndrome are being seen and given the chance to thrive.
One organisation helping to drive this change is the Down Syndrome Research Foundation UK (DSRFUK). Their work is vital in helping ensure people with Down syndrome live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
To honour Dylan, and to support DSRFUK, I’ll once again be cycling from Guildford to Brighton via Shoreham-by-Sea along the Downs Link.
I’ll be doing this ride regardless, but if you’re able to support the cause, every penny will go to helping a community that now holds a very special place in my heart. Last year I was joined by my good friend Oly and once again he'll be in the saddle with me. If you fancy coming along, don't hesitate to reach out.
Thanks x
Thank you for your support! Our charity has been getting medical research underway in the UK for Down Syndrome (T21) for 20 yrs. We have gained tremendous scientific data & knowledge during that time. We share all findings with parents & medical professionals so they are able to implement & integrate changes quickly into their child’s life. This research helps the parents, professionals & public to have a better understanding of T21 & the impact that nutrition & lifestyle can have on the wellbeing & quality of life through preventative measure
