In lieu of money for flowers, the family of Dr Barnes would like to raise money for a charity which aims to provide young people from low-income and disadvantaged backgrounds an opportunity to gain practical insight into the STEM sector (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as well as the knowledge and confidence to progress to university.

We recognise that Dad showed exceptional intelligence in science from a very early age. Through student bursary and grants, Dad was the first member of his immediate family to attend university where he studied Pharmacy. Once married, our Mum supported his ambition to further study for his PhD which opened up a career that fortified his passion for the subject. Dad's work was not just work for him but a passion and hobby which granted him intellectual challenge - in fact, Dad never really retired!

Through his career, Dad's contributions to the Pharmacy sector have been wide and varied ; from teaching Pharmacy at universities plus contributing to degree level text books, helping placement of students in industry settings, contributing to National Advisory Boards in Pharmacy, and of course his day to role as quality control Pharmacist for the East Anglian region. Dad's work gave him so much fulfilment and we are so proud of his achievements.

With the money raised to this wonderful charity, Dad's legacy will live on through the careers of future scientists.
