Dragons Back Race 2026

The Wales Air Ambulance Charity provides advanced life-saving emergency care for everyone in Wales, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are a ‘mobile emergency department’ that relies entirely on donations to keep our helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Story

In 2026 I’ll return to take on the Dragon's Back Race, running the length of Wales through its mountains. I’m doing it in memory of my sister Megan, while raising money for the incredible Welsh Air Ambulance, who did everything they could to try and save her life in March last year.

The emergency services couldn’t bring her back, but I will always feel incredibly grateful for the work they did and the care they showed in that moment. Because of that, raising money for Welsh Air Ambulance means a huge amount to me.

My history with the Dragon's Back Race

In 2024 I entered the Dragon’s Back Race after Megan encouraged me to go for it. It’s one of the toughest ultramarathons in the world, running the length of Wales through its mountains. I made it all the way to Day 5 before picking up an injury and timing out. It was an “almost, but not quite” finish — but I was incredibly proud of what I managed to achieve. At the time, I wasn’t sure if I needed to go back.

After Megan died, I found that being back out running in the mountains helped me find some peace again and regain a sense of purpose. I decided that I want to return to the Dragon’s Back in 2026 to complete the journey down Wales — both as a tribute to Megan and as part of working through what has been a very difficult time. When I spotted Welsh Air Ambulance were looking for someone to fundraise on their behalf it just felt like the right thing to do - I'm very grateful to them for the fundraising race entry.

Welsh Air Ambulance

The Welsh Air Ambulance delivers lifesaving critical care across Wales, often in remote and difficult-to-reach places, and relies heavily on public donations to keep flying.

By supporting this challenge, you’ll be helping them continue that vital work.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. If you’re able to donate, it would mean a great deal. And if you can’t donate, sharing this page would really help spread the word.
