Story
When my daughter was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), her world changed overnight. One day she was active, independent and full of momentum; the next, she was facing a condition that challenged her ability to move, walk and live the life she knew. FND doesn’t just affect the body—it forces patients to grapple with a new reality that arrives suddenly, without warning, and often without clear answers. It demands immense mental strength while simultaneously reshaping the routines most people take for granted.
The impact on her life has been profound. FND meant she had to process a life‑altering diagnosis while adapting instantly to new physical limitations and an unpredictable recovery journey. Watching her navigate these obstacles with resilience has been both inspiring and heart‑breaking. It is her strength—and the strength required of every person living with FND—that fuels this fundraising challenge.
To honour her journey and raise awareness, I have set myself a demanding goal: to lose 30 kg in six months, followed immediately by completing an indoor row equivalent to a full marathon. This is not just a physical challenge but a mental one—it is a commitment to push myself in recognition of the daily challenges my daughter and others with FND face.
I am professionally supported in this effort by White Cliff CrossFit Gym and The Foundry Gym, where I train CrossFit three times a week. They conduct all official weigh‑ins and provide structured support in nutrition, exercise programming and recovery to ensure the challenge is safe, sustainable and credible. My daughter also trains at The Foundry Gym, where coaches have created inclusive, adaptive exercise routines tailored to her needs—proof that fitness can be a powerful tool for rebuilding confidence and capability.
