Where and when

Alfie’s school - St Matthews Church of England Primary School, Derriford, Plymouth PL6 5FN

8am to 8pm

The day

Alfie will be drumming throughout the school day, and his friends will be able to support him until home time at 3pm.

During the morning some musicians from the Plymouth City Brass Band (PCB) will join him to perform concerts to all the children in the school. Some special guests may also make an appearance 😄. In addition, there will be the opportunity for children to try an instrument!

The school will open at 3pm where a combination of different jazz musicians will provide the musical support before the PCB returns at 5pm for an hour of light entertainment.

The finale will be led by the Co-Operative Big Band, who Alfie plays with, and will perform a free, open concert from 6pm – 8pm, playing some great numbers to finish off what should be a great day.

Refreshments will be available.

Background

Alfie is 10 years old and in Year 6. He got his first drum kit aged 5 (see picture) and started lessons aged 7. He has worked his way through the music grades and is currently practising for his grade 8 which he plans to take in February. He loves music and playing the drums (when he’s not playing football!), and last year decided he’d like to use his talent to raise money for a good cause. After considering a few options he decided he wanted to support Children in Need.
