IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton

Danielle Taylor-Gibbons is raising money for British Acoustic Neuroma Association CIO

Ironman 70.3 Bolton · 7 June 2026

Story

In 2015, aged 22 and playing professional football for Liverpool FC Women, I had a 10-hour brain surgery to remove an acoustic neuroma, a non-cancerous brain tumour.

The surgery meant that I permanently lost hearing in my left ear, and had to undergo rehabilitation to regain balance and coordination. As a goalkeeper, that was a key part of my position… and daily life!

Since my diagnosis, I’ve worked to raise awareness of acoustic neuromas and to support others facing similar challenges. The British Acoustic Neuroma Association (BANA) provides information, guidance and peer support for patients and families navigating diagnosis, treatment and long-term effects.

In June, I’m taking on IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton:

• 1.2 mile open-water swim

• 56 mile bike ride

• 13.1 mile run

Training for this is the biggest physical challenge I’ve taken on so far. I’m fortunate to be in a position to do it, while many people affected by acoustic neuromas are still adjusting to changes in hearing, balance and everyday life. I’m doing it to continue raising awareness of ANs and to support the work BANA does to make a practical difference for those facing the same diagnosis.

Every donation, whatever the size, helps BANA to support patients and their families.

If you’re able to contribute, you’re not just supporting my race/challenge, you’re supporting someone at the start of a very uncertain journey.

Thank you for your support!
