Story
Hey, it’s Dulcie and Annie here! In early October we will be JUMPING OUT A PLANE (crazy I know) and taking part in a skydive to raise money for BEAT - the UK's leading charity supporting those affected by eating disorders and campaigning on their behalf. Many of you who know of Dulcie will know of her struggles with her mental health and in particular the eating disorder Anorexia Nervosa. This is an illness categorised by food restriction, body image disturbance, fear of gaining weight, and an overpowering desire to be thin. Well on a surface level. In reality this illness is far far bigger than most people would know - how it affects the people around them and their ability to live what would be considered a ‘normal’ life. Dulcie has struggled with this for the past ten years and has only recently been doing better after a long stay in a psychiatric hospital, which followed numerous general hospital admissions within recent years. Along with this diagnosis comes countless appointments, rigorous treatment involving meal plans and therapy, restriction from school and sports, and in general a poor quality of life. The illness not only affects the individual but has huge impacts on their family, friends, teachers, carers… the list goes on! For these and many other reasons Dulcie and Annie will be partaking in this sky dive to raise as much money as humanly possible for a cause very close to both their hearts. Annie is Dulcie’s elder sister’s best friend as well as a friend and role model to Dulcie. She has taken on the roll of more than a friend for Maddy and Dulcie, the whole family to be honest, and really supporting Maddy through the past few years where Dulcie’s struggles have really impacted the family. It would be amazing if anyone who sees this could donate any amount from £1 to £100 or less or more it would be a real achievement for both to be able to support a charity which represents a huge part of Dulcie’s story. Put aside the fear of jumping out a plane is is amazing that Dulcie is now healthy enough to partake in an activity of this magnitude! Thank you if you have read this far and we really hope we can raise as much money as possible in order to show others struggling that their time will come - they CAN get better and recovery IS possible! Let’s beat the statistics and show the word that more than 1/5 can fully recover and raise money in order to help this charity to aid others in their journey! We shall spend the next 2 months psyching ourselves up to jump out this plane and the biggest motivation would be seeing it all be worth it with a significant amount of money being raised to support such a wonderful charity 🫶🏻
