Story

The objective of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation is to encourage and assist young people to 'climb as high as they can dream', by providing annual scholarships and bursaries for their training and personal development in the pursuit of their ambitions.

Duncan Benham and Naomi Lander-Gray will be participating in the LDWA Dorset Doddle event on the 20th Aug 2023 on behalf of the JTYAF. This event is a 32 mile walk from Weymouth to Swanage on the coast path - to be completed in under 12 hours.

The JTYAF supports young people from a wide range of youth organisations in Dorset and Wiltshire, providing them with scholarships and bursaries to support their personal development and the pursuit of their ambitions.

Recipients of the Charity’s Young Achievers Awards are selected for their demonstration of the Foundation’s key values: courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in adversity.

Since its formation in 2008 the JTYAF has made awards to over 2300 young people which total more than £950,000.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) honours the life of Lt John ‘JT’ Thornton RM, from Ferndown, Dorset, who was tragically killed in southern Afghanistan on 30th March 2008.
