Story
Paddington was a pretty good movie, the sequel however, starring Hugh Grant was much, much better. It's rare the second instalment is better than the first. Usually though the third episode is pretty drab (same old, same old) and uneventful. Yes, I am unashamedly comparing my attempts at the Brathay Ten in Ten with Paddington Bear movies.
Each annual event however, is without doubt a monumental effort (especially for an old plodder like me), it requires significant investment in training, combined with physical, emotional and mental fortitude. It's five years since my last successful completion of the event, older but not wiser, hopefully just as stubborn. Just like Apollo coming out of retirement to take on a brutal and ruthless adversary in Rocky 4, I too have decided to pull on a pair of trainers again and try to achieve two goals; get through the match-up without dying in the arms of Rocky and secondly to raise funds for Brathay Trust, a charity who never gives in, offers second chances; hope and inspiration to young people across the UK.
For the last few years, I've had my head down trying to do the right thing and worked hard to develop my own business but I've realised that I'm too blinkered, too selfish, so what if I don't have thousands in the bank? I'm going to stick to what feels right, not what is expected by life and HMRC. So, I'm in search of my missing mojo, my love for running, my love for life and what I can do for others, just so long as I can get by.
'We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' Winston Churchill
The thing is, I can't do this without you. I need, we need your support. Whatever you can offer, would be gratefully received and will go directly to help young people build brighter futures in our changing world.
