Duncan's fundraiser for Marie Curie

Dublin Marathon 2024 · 27 October 2024 ·
On 27th October 2024, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the Dublin Marathon in aid of Marie Curie. All the money raised will help Marie Curie provide vital care and support to people living with a terminal illness, and their families at the toughest time.
£3 helps fund a meal for a patient in one of their hospices.
£26 helps fund an hour of bereavement support by phone
or webchat.
£207 helps fund nine hours of overnight nursing care in a patient's home.
Thank you so much for donating whatever you can, it really will support Marie Curie
For those who know me, cancer has played a significant part in my family's history, affecting my Grandfather George in 1996 who was a huge inspiration in my life and was one of the people who encouraged me to travel , take opportunities when the arose and inspired a sense of adventure with his stories of being in the merchant navy as a young mechanical engineer .
I met my wife in 1997 and met her family in 2000 and they became part of my family.
Cancer then returned to my life witn my brother in law Stephen in 2004, then his wife, Catherine and my father in law, Catherine and my father in law Peter sadly passed away in Nov 2012 and Jan 2013 respectively.
In May 2022 , my older brother, in law David died just 3 weeks after being diagnosed with renal cancer. This was an enormous shock to us all but especially for my wife Siobhan and her mum, Valerie, who was recovering from a ruptured brain aneurysm less than 5 months before. Then in December 2022, unbelievably, my wife’s mum Valerie was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer and started receiving chemotherapy in January 2023.
Throughout all of this, Valerie never lost her zest for life - she continued to play bridge, meet friends for coffee and lunch, take leisurely drives and continued to hand out DIY instructions at home!!
Sadly, Valerie died on June 6th 2023. She was an inspiration to us all and will be missed terribly.
Your support for Marie Curie allows us to give something back to the nurses, doctors and staff who supported all these people and others who continue to rely on Marie Curie through cancer treatment , so thank you for your donation and support.
This is an important charity that supports many families during diagnosis and treatment with amazing staff .
Thank you!
