Gower Peninsula Ultra Challenge 2025 · 19 July 2025 to 20 July 2025 ·

We’re Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and we’re a suicide prevention charity. We host a helpline for people affected by suicide, as well as vital online resources for anyone who needs them.

Story

Hi everyone, this is Emily. On the 15th of September 2023, my best friend Sophie Turbutt sadly and unexpectedly took her own life, she was 15. She was my favourite person in the whole world and I wish more than anything that she was still here with me. Despite her struggles, she maintained a bubbly and energetic personality, and always had enough silly songs and dances to make anyone laugh. Since her death, I have taken it upon myself to spread awareness for mental health and provide resources for suicide prevention online.

That's why I have decided to take on the 50k hike challenge along the Gower Peninsula, Wales in her memory, alongside our friend Dylan and my mum Karen, and have chosen CALM as our charity. CALM is an amazing charity that focuses on suicide prevention, as well as providing support guides for a variety of wellbeing related issues; they also run a helpline for anyone that requires immediate support.

We hope that, by completing this challenge, we raise awareness for the current mental health crisis, raise valuable money for CALM and keep Sophie's memory alive. Any amount of money is very much appreciated so don't feel any pressure to donate loads. Thank you for reading about Sophie and learning about our challenge - Emily, Dylan and Karen 🦋
