Dylan and Stephen's fundraiser for My Mito Mission

Dylan Ryan is raising money for My Mito Mission

Wicklow Way Race 127 km ultramarathon · 24 July 2026

Our missions are run by families affected by mitochondrial disease, mito for short. MILLIONS in the UK have illnesses which also involve mitochondrial damage - diabetes, MS, stroke, some cancers & many more. More research into mitochondrial disease could help so many, not just those with mito.

Story

Mitochondrial disease—“mito” for short—is a devastating group of genetic conditions that disrupt the body’s ability to produce energy. It can affect almost any organ, causing profound fatigue, disability and, for many families, life-limiting illness.

My Mito Mission is driven by affected families determined to raise awareness, fund research and bring hope of better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Whether you support the charity as a whole or an individual mission, every donation contributes to the same vital cause.

We (Dylan & Stephen) are scientists working in Ireland and the UK to understand mitochondrial disease and improve the outlook for people living with it. Mitochondria are fundamental to human health, yet public awareness of these complex disorders remains limited. Their dysfunction is also implicated across a wide range of common illnesses, including diabetes, multiple sclerosis, sepsis, stroke and some cancers. Progress in mitochondrial research therefore has the potential to reach far beyond rare disease.

We are running this ultramarathon to raise awareness and funds for My Mito Mission. Every step of an endurance challenge relies on functioning mitochondria to generate the energy that keeps muscles, hearts and brains working. The ability to run such a distance is extraordinary but for people with mitochondrial disease, even everyday activities can demand immense effort.

As My Mito Mission says 'Imagine living life on a low battery that can’t be charged'

Thank you for supporting this mission. Your donation helps raise awareness, accelerate research and bring hope to individuals and families affected by mito.
