Story
In February 2024, I will be participating in my first runDisney weekend at Walt Disney World in Florida. My goal on this magical trip is, of course, to make memories, but also to fundraise so that others can hold onto their memories for longer.
A few years ago, my wonderful grandma (who we like to call Glam-ma for her fabulous sense of style) was diagnosed with dementia. As a family, we’ve had to watch as this vicious disease has gradually eroded away at her wonderful personality.
There is currently no cure for dementia, which is why I’ve chosen to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society. As one of the leading charities in the field, they help those affected to cope with the realities of this illness, while funding vital research to stop it in its tracks.
I will be taking on various races as part of the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, including:
• Princess Ariel's 5km
• Princess Rapunzel’s 10km
• Princess Tiana’s half marathon
Together, these races form the Fairytale Challenge, which is themed to Frozen – and there’s no better evidence for the importance of love and family than Anna and Elsa <3
With your help, I’m hoping that scientists will someday “see the light” so we’ll be “almost there” when it comes to curing dementia, and “for the first time in forever”, nobody will have to suffer losing their magical memories again.
Thank you so much in advance for any support you’re able to show.
Emily x
