We share our lives with cats. They bring happiness to millions of us every day. Yet too many cats don’t get the care and kindness they deserve. At Cats Protection we stand up for every cat to make life better for cats and the people who care for them.

Story

Meet Will, a young Maine Coon kitten who came into our care with a severe angular limb deformity in his front leg. Sadly, the affected limb can no longer function properly, and after specialist assessment, our vets have confirmed that the kindest option for him is a front leg amputation. Once healed, he will be able to live a full, happy life as a confident, pain free tripod cat.

🐱 Why This Condition Is More Common in Maine Coons

Maine Coons are known for their large size and rapid growth, which puts them at higher risk for orthopaedic issues compared with other breeds. Research and veterinary guidance highlight that Maine Coons are more prone to genetic and developmental orthopaedic conditions, including angular limb deformities, due to inherited traits affecting bone growth and alignment.

Additionally, Maine Coons show an increased tendency toward joint and skeletal problems as a breed, which can exacerbate deformities as they develop.

This means kittens like Will can develop front leg deformities even with normal care — through no fault of their own.

💛 Why He Needs Your Help

As a charity, Cats Protection relies entirely on the kindness of supporters. Amputation is a complex procedure involving:

• Pre operative diagnostics and imaging

• The surgery itself

• Pain relief and aftercare

• Rehabilitation during recovery

• Ongoing assessments until he’s ready for adoption

Every donation will directly support his treatment and healing.

🌟 His Spirit

Despite the discomfort in his leg, Will is affectionate, playful, and eager for fuss. He doesn’t understand why his leg won’t keep up — he just wants the chance to run, climb, and enjoy life like any other kitten. With this surgery, he finally can.

❤️ How You Can Make a Difference

• Send a message of support our team reads every one to him

Thank you for helping us give this sweet boy the bright future he deserves. Your generosity makes stories like his possible. 🐾✨
