Story
Uganda just passed draconian anti-LGBTQ+ laws which have been described as “the worst in the world”. LGBTQ+ people can face years in prison or even the death penalty. Even allies face penalties for not turning in friends, family or colleagues to the police. This law is being used as a template elsewhere in East African and so the East African LGBTQ+ community needs support to:
• Provide shelter for people who have either fled or been forced from their homes
• Challenge these draconian laws through strategic litigation
• Defend and protect LGBTQI people and allies
• Support refugees to settle safely in neighbouring countries
• Build a progressive movement across East Africa to halt and reverse these attacks on LGBTQI rights
