PLEASE HELP RESTORE EASTON CHURCH

St Mary's Easton has been a cornerstone of our local heritage for over 900 years. This beautiful Norman church, believed to be the earliest in the valley, is a cherished landmark admired by many on their daily walks.
However, the church is now in desperate need of restoration work.
During work to fix the leaking roof in 2024, builders uncovered far more serious structural issues. The metal roof joist that spans the chancel—designed to support the roof truss is no longer anchored, as the wooden beam it was fixed to has rotted away. As a result, the roof is no longer properly supported.
Even more concerning, 28 metres of coping stones running along the east end of the church above the chancel have become dangerously loose and are starting to fall. The area has had to be fenced off, and protective netting will be installed inside the church to safeguard anyone inside in case the stones fall through the roof.
These repairs are essential if St Mary’s is to remain standing and continue to be enjoyed by our community, both from the outside and within. The estimated cost of the work is £150,000.
Even if you’re not a regular worshipper, many of you attend the much-loved Christmas Eve service, and some of your children have married or may one day hope to marry at St Mary’s.
This church is part of all our lives, and we now need to come together as a community to save it for future generations.
All money raised will be strictly for the church restoration project and not for any improvement works.
