Story
I'm running the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October to raise money for St Mungo's – a charity dedicated to not only providing accommodation for people in need, but also support and training to help them live independently.
Last year, they supported over 25,000 people, and 80% of the people they help off the streets don't return to rough sleeping.
They run a range of services, including an employable skills scheme, emergency accommodation for severe weather, detox placements, and a range of semi-independent living hostels. They have a housing-first approach, first getting people off the streets and into a safe place, and then building skills, rather than taking the route of some charities where people must earn the right to housing.
They are also very keen to keep people with their pets, providing pet-friendly accommodation [as well as options without pets for people with allergies of phobias].
The money I raise from this run will go towards providing warm food, keeping frontline teams going, and funding employment support services – all vital part of keeping the operation going.
Please give what you're able to and feel free to share this fundraiser with friends [please don't share on social media without asking me].
